Billboards are positioned along highways and in high-traffic urban areas to captivate commuters, travelers, and locals with high-impact advertising.
A digital billboard is a type of display that utilizes digital technology to showcase content on a rotating basis. In contrast, traditional billboards used in out-of-home advertising (OOH) typically feature only one advertisement at a time and the creatives need to be printed and then hung at the location. When it comes to billboard advertising, digital billboards offer tremendous benefits as compared to their printed OOH cousin.
We make it easy to unlock digital billboards at scale with precision.
Digital billboards are found alongside roadways across the country. Some people only think of this type of digital display as being in Time Square New York City. Although there are many digital billboards in Times Square and other large cities like Los Angeles, roadside billboards are popping up even in more rural locations throughout the country. For general market coverage of DOOH and Digital Billboards, find a map here.
When you run a Digital out of home (DOOH) campaign that includes Digital Billboards, your ads will automatically display on the digital billboards for 8-15 seconds. The digital billboards rotate through different ads and depending on your targeting your ad will display on the screen in different rotating slots.
Since these are static billboards, you will won't be able to include any animation or motion. There are a few exceptions to this rule. For example, in Times Square New York City, and in Los Angeles you can find roadside billboards that play motion.
Another great part about using digital billboards for your campaign is that the lead time required to go live can be as short as the same day! Once our team has the creative and it gets approved it will immediately start to run across all the targeted LED billboards on the plan.
There are so many different formats for digital billboards. Each billboard can be a slightly different size requiring a whole new creative spec. Thankfully, we make it really easy and automatically scale your creative to work for billboard ads. In general, the most popular creative specs required for digital billboards are 1400x400 and 840x400. These two sizes account for about 80%-90% of the available impressions on digital billboards. See our creative best practices document here.

Digital Billboards can be may more cost-effective than a traditional printed OOH billboard since there's less manual labor involved in the outdoor advertising process.
Digital billboards are sold on impressions. Whenever your ad plays on the billboard a certain number of impressions are accounted for. This makes it really easy to plan a digital billboard campaign. If you know how many impressions you want to run we can tell you exactly how much it will cost and how many unique digital billboard locations you will run on.
Since the digital billboards are ....digital, there are many unique strategies you can deploy. A few common targeting ones include:
Geofencing - target your own retail locations or a competitor's stores. We generally recommend a quarter-mile to a 3-mile radius depending on the population density of the area.
Day Parting Creative- Target a certain creative to the morning rush hour crowd and a different one in the afternoon.
Audience - Find billboards that over-index for your target audience. By using audience data you help ensure that your ads are seen by the most relevant groups of people.
